Why Doesn’t God Make the World Better?
Often when we view our world and see the chaos, floods, hurricanes, wars, pandemics, earthquakes, and tragic accidents, we wonder if God rules over his creation. However, in reviewing God’s plan we can see that he does. But what we fail to recognize is his plan includes all of us.
When God commanded, “go and multiply,” God meant in its broadest context. God intended his children, via our personal example, to turn our world into His kingdom.
God hoped that with the message Jesus left, His followers would grasp its meaning, live it, and then pass it on. Jesus wanted us to be his modern-day shepherds tending his sheep. God saw our good behavior to be the glue that mended whatever fell apart.
Even today, God calls and sends his followers. The tending may consist of a corrective reprimand or a simple affirmation. God’s plan chooses everyone in creation to go and multiply. In this way, creation will stay whole. It’s when we refuse to respond that the breakdown begins, and God gets blamed. And then we hear, “Why did God allow that condo to fall and kill so many sleeping people?”
Think about this: God made us in his image and likeness and still takes care of us. Only when we begin to truly understand His care and concern, mercy and love, can we become grateful. Our gratitude sprouts generosity which leads to a gracious response to God. God never coerces. The free choice is always ours.
Consider how often we marvel at a Monarch butterfly’s beauty. We rarely think of the many changes it undergoes to become so pretty. To do what God calls us to do requires many changes in our lifestyle, schedule, or even our existence. Mary and Joseph’s lives were never the same after they said yes!
They both believed that the Lord who sends will also supply needed help. Why? Jesus’ consequential words say it best: “I am with you all days, even till the end.” This is because God sincerely wants to be in relationship with us. God enjoys accompanying us. This is why he created us in the first place.
Remember, we are never too old to get the call, to seek a goal, or to find a new dream. God encourages us to live until we can’t. Be assured, God never asks for anything that divides, stirs fear, or causes hatred. God’s call is about making us good, rather than simply great again.
God wants us to be his windows through which he sees his creation and the best ways to improve it. Following his plan, God hopes when we are called, we leave our comfort zone, and go with an accompanying, caring God who promises all the needed help.
Therefore, the next time someone asks: Why doesn’t God fix it? We can easily answer: God absolutely will. And He is sending us to do it. Will you go?
