A Moment From De Sales

Our daily task from the Lord is to do good.

“Do the good today,” preaches Pope Francis. Pope Francis believes that the Lord calls each one of us on a daily basis to do some good. He believes as disciples we are sent to boost our world in some small way through acts of goodness. It’s our purpose in life to make God’s creation better through our acts of goodness. No matter how small nor how large.

Pope Francis encourages us to do goodness, because Jesus said, “Everything I have is yours.” Since everything WAS once God’s, our calling, as Jesus’ disciples, is to give it away. Formalized through our Baptism, Jesus sends us each day to spread His goodness among our neighbors. We may ask, “Well what is the good Jesus wants me to accomplish each day?

It differs with each day’s dawning.  For instance, one day we may suddenly feel inspired to contact an old friend we haven’t heard from in a while. On another, we may feel an urge to email a favorite aunt living alone in Florida and celebrating her birthday. After getting bad news that a classmate is ill with cancer you may have the desire to call and let him know your feelings.

God’s goodness is channeled many ways through the actions of the Holy Spirit. Yet every action is to make our world aware that God desires it renewed through some action we can easily execute. God wants prayers answered and we can assist Him through our acts.

No one doubts that creation needs the Lord’s goodness, but too many people doubt they can personally hear his call and help spread His goodness.   If we refuse by saying, “I’ll wait until tomorrow.” It may be too late. God wants our participation today.

The action we feel called to accomplish can either be a personal healing moment such as stopping us from feeling sorry for ourselves while we are affirming our aunt celebrating her birthday alone in Florida. We can never know God’s full intentions, but one thing we do know is God loves all equally and the same.

As Pope Francis maintains God works his healing through us and our responses as long as people of good faith hear God’s call and go where He sends them miracles will happen.   Become God’s envoy, make His goodness grow and prosper and joy WILL BE visible for all to see.
