A Moment From De Sales

Now that Easter is over what does Jesus still want from us?

Jesus wants us not to forget why we have Easter in the first place.  And that we remember the part that Jesus played in it.

Jesus conveys two purposes through His Easter actions for us.  The first and main purpose is to reseal the broken friendship between His Father and His creation. The second is to change humanity’s destiny.

In creation, God the creator envisioned a paradise where He and His creation would get to know each other through their evening walks in the garden.  Disguised as a serpent, the devil had other plans.

The devil persuaded Adam and Eve not to believe God’s directive to stay away from the forbidden fruit.  Instead they choose to eat it, betraying God and being banished forever from the garden. However, God missed their companionship and desired their return.

Jesus, God’s Incarnate Son and the second person of the Trinity, accepted the mission of restoring God’s broken friendship and giving creation the destiny of eternal life.  After a short span on earth, they would live forever with the God who loved them.

The second purpose is Jesus endured pain and suffered crucifixion to free creation from eternal punishment and opening heaven’s gates allowing entrance into the divine household.  This great gift from Jesus doesn’t cost creation anything.  Creation simply rises from the dead and lives in eternity.

Today, and every day, Jesus waits for us to see clearly what Easter means and that our changed behavior shows Him and His Father that we do understand and are grateful. For if we do, then we understand that the feast of Easter is all about us.  God is our creator and our savior.  And the reason is love.  God brought about Easter because He cares and loves us.

Jesus lived His earthly life with us to show us how to obey God rather than humans.  He spent three years showing us that He was “the way, the truth, and the life.”  We listened to His voice feeding on His words and learning how Jesus can fill our every need.

We are encouraged to follow only Jesus.  We live our earthly life only for the sake of the name, Jesus!  He only speaks the Good News.  If other voices don’t sound like Jesus, then they are not His words.  For whatever hunger we yearn, Jesus has the words of fulfillment.

Now that Easter is over for this year, Jesus waits to see if we remember Him and why He came. Then He helps fend off any tricky serpents not sounding like Jesus and helping us to listen to those who speak only for the sake of His name.
